We are pleased to announce that ARTICLE 19 Eastern Africa has been re-elected as the Coordinating and Fiscal Host of the African Internet Rights Alliance (AIRA) for a renewed two-year tenure spanning January 2027 to December 2028.
This decision reflects the continued trust of AIRA’s membership in ARTICLE 19 Eastern Africa’s leadership and their demonstrated commitment to advancing digital rights across the continent. Over the past tenure, their coordination has helped strengthen AIRA’s voice in regional and global policy spaces from internet governance forums to human rights accountability mechanisms.
As AIRA continues to grow its work on platform accountability, digital public infrastructure, AI governance, and civic space protection, this renewed mandate ensures continuity of purpose and momentum at a critical time for Africa’s digital future.
We look forward to deepening collaboration with civil society organisations, researchers, and advocates across the continent under this continued partnership, building toward a more open, inclusive, and rights-respecting internet for all Africans.
