About AIRA
The African Internet Rights Alliance (AIRA) is a coalition of 10 leading internet rights CSOs in Africa with a strategic focus on influencing regional and global policies and addressing critical digital rights challenges emerging on the continent. Our work centres on issues such as network disruptions, information integrity, and the protection of digital rights in electoral and democratic processes.
Our mission is to build a rich, Afro-centric network of stakeholders and promote collaborative learning, peer support, and actionable policy engagement.
About the Course
As part of the AIRA Annual Training, we are seeking a consultant to deliver a Diversified Funding and Sustainability Planning training for alliance members. The purpose of this course is to strengthen members’ capacity to navigate funding challenges—especially in light of the recent funding crisis—by:
- Understanding and applying funding diversification strategies.
- Building strategic approaches to donor relationship management.
- Exploring income-generating models relevant to African organisations.
- Developing sustainability roadmaps that ensure long-term organisational resilience.
Participants will include digital rights advocates and representatives of AIRA member organisations from across Africa and the Global South.
Scope of Work & Deliverables
The selected consultant will:
- Design a detailed training curriculum tailored to African CSOs working in the digital rights space.
- Facilitate a multi-session virtual workshop series over three(3) consecutive days (recommended: 2 hours per day) in October 2025. Sessions should incorporate interactive tools such as breakout rooms, live case studies, polls, and collaborative exercises.
- Provide light pre-session and between-session assignments to reinforce learning.
- Produce a post-training report summarising the session’s key discussions, lessons learned, and recommendations for further capacity building.
Consultant Profile
We seek an experienced practitioner with:
- At least 7 years of proven experience in fundraising, financial sustainability planning, and donor engagement for non-profits in Africa or the Global South.
- Demonstrated success in securing and diversifying funding sources (bilateral, multilateral, foundations, corporate partnerships, and income-generating activities).
- Experience delivering engaging virtual capacity-building sessions with interactive, participatory methods.
Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the African and Global South funding landscape. - Excellent facilitation and communication skills.

- Budget: USD 3,000 for consultant fees (inclusive of consultant fees; covers preparation, facilitation, and reporting).
